Pear Salad Recipe
Description
The Pear Salad Recipe assembles canned pear halves drained well and arranged on a serving platter, optionally over fresh butter or iceberg lettuce leaves. Each pear half is topped with a spoonful of mayonnaise, then a sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese, and finally crowned with a maraschino cherry. This layering combines sweet, creamy, and tangy flavors with varied textures.
The salad's cool temperature complements the mild sweetness of the pears and the savory notes of the cheese and mayonnaise. The use of canned pears simplifies preparation and ensures consistent tenderness. Lettuce serves as a refreshing base that adds a crisp element if included.
This salad suits light lunches, side dishes, or party presentations where a visually appealing yet straightforward dish is desired. It can be made ahead by assembling and refrigerating the layered pears without the cherries, which are added just before serving to maintain their appearance and texture.
Preparation ahead enhances the melding of flavors, while the added cherries right before serving ensure the salad remains fresh and vibrant. This dish requires minimal ingredients but offers an inviting combination for those appreciating sweet and savory contrasts.
Ingredients
- 1 (29-ounce) can pear drained well, halves
- 1/2 /2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 /2 cup cheddar cheese shredded
- maraschino cherries
- lettuce optional, leaves; butter or iceberg lettuce
Instructions
- Remove pear halves from can, taking care to drain away as much liquid from pears as possible. Place pears onto a serving platter on top of lettuce leaves (if using) or straight onto the platter.
- Top each pear half with about a teaspoon of mayonnaise, then add a little cheddar cheese to the top of the mayonnaise, and top each with a maraschino cherry.
- Serve cold.
Notes
- Prepare the pear salad in advance, omitting the maraschino cherries, and wrap it tightly or place it in an airtight container to refrigerate for up to 24 hours.
- Add maraschino cherries just before serving to keep their color and texture intact.
