Pecan Pie Roll Ups

Pecan Pie Roll Ups use refrigerated crescent roll dough filled with a pecan mixture of chopped pecans, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and melted butter. The dough triangles are filled at the wide end and rolled toward the point, baked until golden and flaky, and topped with warm caramel sauce. This results in a bite-sized, sweet pastry with a tender crust and a sticky, nutty filling reminiscent of pecan pie flavors.

Description

To prepare, crescent roll dough is divided into individual triangles without separating, then filled generously with a pecan mixture combining chopped pecans, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and melted butter. Each triangle is rolled tightly from wide to narrow end, placed on a lined baking sheet spaced apart, and baked at 400°F for 8 to 10 minutes until the dough is golden brown and crisp. While baking, caramel sauce is warmed for drizzling. After baking, the rolls are drizzled with caramel and optionally sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, creating a sweet, nutty, and buttery flavor profile with a crisp exterior and soft, sweet interior.

These roll ups are ideal as a dessert or snack and serve well warm for their soft texture and runny caramel topping. They can be stored in airtight containers at room temperature or refrigerated, and reheated briefly in a microwave before serving. Portion size is considered two roll ups per serving.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 packages crescent roll dough refrigerated
  • caramel sauce for topping

Filling

  • 1 cup pecans chopped
  • cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup flour
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup butter melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees and lightly grease or line a baking sheet with parchment or a nonstick baking mat.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough and gently separate the triangles. (I like to use a pizza cutter to get nice even lines)
  3. Stir together pecans, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and melted butter.
  4. Add a scoop (about 2-3 tablespoons) to each of the triangles, at the wide end. (I always error on the side of too much filling, I like it to spill out the ends a bit.)
  5. Gently roll up each crescent starting with the wide end of the triangle and rolling toward the skinny pointed end. Place on prepared baking sheet 2-3 inches apart.
  6. Bake in preheated oven for about 8-10 minutes until golden brown.
  7. While roll ups are baking, heat caramel sauce a bit in the microwave or on the stovetop.
  8. Drizzle caramel sauce over roll ups. Top with a sprinkle of cinnamon-sugar if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

  • This recipe yields 16 roll ups; a serving size is two roll ups.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 48 hours or refrigerate for up to five days.
  • To reheat, warm 1-2 roll ups in the microwave for 10-20 seconds to restore softness.
