  • ¾ cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon peppermint extract
  • marshmallow garnishes such as crushed on candy canes

  • candy cane

Instructions

  1. Place the milk, cocoa powder and granulated sugar in a pot.
  2. Cook over medium low heat for about 4-5 minutes, whisking occasionally, until the mixture is warm and the cocoa and sugar are thoroughly incorporated. You want the milk to be at a light simmer, but do not bring it to a boil.
  3. Add the chocolate and cook for another 3-4 minutes, whisking continuously.
  4. After the chocolate has fully melted into the milk, add the vanilla extract and peppermint extract. Cook for 1 minute.
  5. Serve the hot chocolate in mugs topped with garnishes as desired.
