Pepperoni Bread
Description
The preparation calls for room-temperature pizza dough rolled into a rectangular shape, layered evenly with pepperoni slices and shredded mozzarella. The dough is rolled tightly along the long side and sealed before placing seam-side down on a baking sheet. After baking at 375°F until golden brown, the bread is brushed with a mixture of melted butter, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and garlic salt, then sprinkled with parmesan cheese. Cooling slightly before slicing helps maintain shape and texture. The interplay of melted mozzarella and savory pepperoni with the seasoned crust offers a rich, satisfying flavor profile.
This bread pairs well with pizza sauce for dipping or can be enjoyed on its own as a finger food. It can be made with homemade or store-bought dough, and whole wheat dough is an option. The recipe offers flexibility with seasonings and cheese types depending on preference.
The garlic butter coating adds moisture and a flavor boost contrasting with the crisp baked crust. Allowing the dough to come to room temperature before rolling helps achieve an even rise and texture.
Ingredients
- 1 pound pizza dough store-bought or homemade
- 6 ounces pepperoni slices
- 8 ounces mozzarella cheese shredded, whole-milk
- 3 tablespoons butter melted
- 1 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 tablespoon Parmesan Cheese grated
- pizza sauce
Instructions
- If the pizza dough is refrigerated, let it come to room temperature, about 1 ½-2 hours.
- Once the pizza dough is at room temperature, preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat or spray with nonstick cooking spray.
- Place the pizza dough on a silicone baking mat or sheet of parchment paper or on a lightly floured surface.
- Roll the pizza dough into a 15x10-inch rectangle.
- Place the pepperonis on the pizza dough in a single layer.
- Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese over the pepperonis.
- Roll the dough up from the long side.
- Pinch the seam and place seam-side down diagonally on prepared baking sheet.
- Bake until golden brown and baked through, about 25-30 minutes.
- Add the melted butter, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and garlic salt to a small bowl.
- Stir until combined.
- Brush the garlic butter onto the baked pizza bread, and sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
- Let the bread cool for about 5 minutes.
- Slice into 2-inch pieces and serve with pizza sauce for dipping.
Notes
- You may use either homemade or store-bought pizza dough, including whole wheat varieties.
- Whole milk mozzarella melts well, but part-skim mozzarella can be substituted as needed.
- Garlic salt can be replaced with an equal amount of garlic powder.
- Let refrigerated dough come to room temperature (1½ to 2 hours) before shaping to ensure better texture.
