Perfect Baked Bacon

This recipe guides you to bake bacon strips evenly crisped and browned by baking them on a foil-lined, non-flat cookie sheet at 400°F. The method keeps bacon strips separated so they cook uniformly without sticking. The result is deliciously crispy bacon ideal for meal prep or quick additions to dishes.

Description

Perfect Baked Bacon uses oven baking to produce evenly cooked, crispy bacon with minimal mess. By lining a bar pan with foil and leaving it slightly crinkled, bacon grease pools safely without running over. Arranging strips one by one with space prevents sticking and ensures each slice crisps on all sides.

Baking at 400 degrees for 15 to 17 minutes crisps the bacon thoroughly, allowing you to drain it on paper towels afterward for less grease. This method avoids the splatter and attention needed for stovetop frying while producing consistent results.

Pre-cooking a week's worth of bacon on the weekend is possible with this technique, storing portions in airtight bags for simple reheating. Additionally, reserving the bacon grease left behind is recommended for use in other recipes for added flavor.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 pound Bacon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with foil, you can leave the foil a little crinkled so the grease doing pool under the bacon.
  2. Do not use a flat cookie sheet, use a bar pan. A flat cookie sheet will get you a mess in your oven, as the grease forms it will drip down the pan.
  3. Lay out bacon one strip at a time on the cookie sheet. The bacon should not touch. You can leave about a quarter inch between of space between each slice of bacon.
  4. Place cookie sheet with bacon into the oven and bake for 15-17 minutes. When the bacon is browned and crispy, you will drain it on paper towels. Now wasn't that easy?

Notes

  • Bake bacon on a bar pan rather than a flat sheet to prevent grease dripping in the oven.
  • Allow bacon slices to have some space between them for even crisping.
  • Drain cooked bacon on paper towels to reduce excess grease before serving or storing.
  • Store pre-cooked bacon in airtight bags for use throughout the week and reheat as needed.
  • Save bacon grease for cooking other dishes to add flavor.
