Perfect Grilled Chicken Breasts

These grilled chicken breasts are marinated in Italian dressing, garlic powder, and soy sauce to infuse flavor and tenderize the meat before grilling. The marinade helps keep the chicken moist while cooking over medium-high heat. The simple step of rubbing the grill grate with onion imparts subtle savory notes and keeps the chicken from sticking. Grilling yields juicy chicken breasts with a slightly smoky char that works well for immediate serving or later use in sandwiches or salads.

Description

Perfect Grilled Chicken Breasts begin with soaking chicken breasts in a marinade combining Italian dressing, garlic powder, and soy sauce, which seasons and tenderizes the meat. After at least 30 minutes of marinating in the refrigerator, the chicken is removed, seasoned lightly with salt and pepper, and grilled over medium-high heat until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. Rubbing the grill grates with a halved onion before cooking adds flavor and helps prevent sticking.

The result is chicken breasts that are flavorful and retain moisture, featuring the tang from the dressing and the umami from the soy sauce. Cooking on a clean, hot grill develops slight grill marks and a pleasant texture without drying out the meat.

These grilled chicken breasts can be enjoyed hot immediately or cooled and packed for a lunch. They work well alongside a variety of side dishes or sliced as a protein addition to sandwiches and salads.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 6 chicken breast
  • 12 oz Italian dressing
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Put chicken breasts in a large zip bag and cover with Italian dressing, garlic powder, and soy sauce. Gently squeeze the air out of the bag. Shake bag so all the chicken is covered with the dressing. You can also add chicken to a bowl and submerge in marinade.
  2. Place the bag in a bowl and refrigerate at least 30 minutes, up to overnight.
  3. Pre-heat and clean grill- rubbing ½ an onion on the hot grill cleans and flavors the grates.
  4. Remove chicken from bag with marinade.
  5. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Cook chicken on medium-high heat until 165 internal temperature, about 15 minutes.
  7. Enjoy when hot, or refrigerate and use for a sack lunch.
