Philly Cheese Steak Cheesy Bread

Philly Cheese Steak Cheesy Bread features thinly sliced ribeye steak cooked with Worcestershire sauce, sautéed with bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms, layered onto halved French bread spread with mayonnaise and provolone cheese. Baked until golden and bubbly, it creates a sandwich-style bread topped with melted cheese and savory steak and vegetables.

Description

This recipe transforms classic Philly cheesesteak flavors into a cheesy bread meal. Thin ribeye steak seasoned with salt and pepper is seared quickly with Worcestershire sauce to enhance flavor. The same pan is used to sauté buttered green bell pepper, yellow onion, and mushrooms until tender. A loaf of French bread is split lengthwise and spread with mayonnaise, then layered with provolone slices followed by the cooked steak and veggies, and another cheese layer.

Baked at 400°F for 10-15 minutes, the cheese melts and browns slightly, binding the steak and vegetables to the bread with creamy mayonnaise beneath. The result is a hearty, sliceable bread with rich, savory fillings. It’s best served immediately while hot and the cheese is melty. The varied textures from tender meat to tender-crisp veggies and crusty bread make it filling and flavorful.

The recipe provides straightforward cooking methods and seasoning, relying on quality steak slices and fresh vegetables for character. The mayonnaise base promotes moisture and balances the flavors of meat and cheese.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 16 ounces ribeye steak thinly sliced
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium green bell pepper sliced
  • 1 medium yellow onion sliced
  • 4 ounces mushrooms sliced
  • 1 loaf French bread cut in half lengthwise
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 10-12 lices provolone cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Add the salt and pepper to the ribeye steak.
  2. In a large cast iron skillet add the oil and heat to medium high. Add the steak and sear each side for about 2 minutes.
  3. Add the Worcestershire sauce and toss with the meat. Remove from the pan.
  4. Add the butter, bell peppers, onion and mushroom to the pan and salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Cook for two minutes until the veggies are tender.
  6. Spread mayonnaise over both halves of the bread.
  7. Layer with slices of Provolone cheese.
  8. Add the steak and vegetables.
  9. Layer with remaining cheese.
  10. Cook for 10-15 minutes on the middle rack until browned.
  11. Slice into two inch thick slices and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use thinly sliced ribeye for quick searing and tender meat texture.
  • Cook vegetables until just tender to maintain some texture alongside the steak.
  • Spread mayonnaise on the bread for moisture and to help cheese and toppings adhere.
  • Serve the cheesy bread immediately after baking to enjoy the melted cheese.
