Ingredients

  • 12 ounces ribeye steak very thinly sliced or shaved, or beef cut for cheesesteaks
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or canola oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt divided
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper divided, ground
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 green bell pepper seeded and sliced into thin strips
  • 1 yellow onion peeled and sliced into thin strips
  • 4 ounces mushrooms sliced, fresh
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • l loaf French bread cut in half lengthwise, fresh, or Italian bread
  • 12 ounces provolone cheese deli-style, slices

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375F.
  2. In a small bowl, toss the shaved steak in the oil and half of the salt and pepper.
  3. Heat a frying pan over medium heat, then add the steak and cook for 2 minutes without stirring. Add theWorcestershire sauce and stir well. Continue to cook the meat until no longer pink, then remove the meat from the pan and set aside.
  4. Melt the butter in the pan, then add the green bell pepper, onion, and mushrooms. Pan fry until softened and beginning to brown, stirring occasionally, about 5-8 minutes. Remove the vegetables from the heat and set aside.
  5. Place the two halves of the bread, cut side up, on a large baking sheet. Tip: line the pan with foil for easy clean up.
  6. Spread both halves of the bread with mayonnaise. Layer on half of the provolone cheese; top with the steak, the veggies, and then the remaining cheese.
  7. Bake the cheesesteak bread at375F for 15 minutes until the cheese is melted.
  8. Cut and serve warm.
