Pico de Gallo

Pico de Gallo is a fresh salsa consisting of diced Roma tomatoes, white or red onion, cilantro, and jalapeño, flavored with lime juice and salt. Its texture is crisp with a balance of tangy, spicy, and herbaceous notes. This uncooked salsa adds brightness and contrast to Mexican dishes and snacks, making it versatile for topping tacos, eggs, or serving with chips.

Description

Pico de Gallo features diced tomatoes, onions, fresh cilantro, and jalapeño pepper combined with lime juice and salt to create a fresh, vibrant salsa. The ingredients maintain their crisp textures, offering a fresh crunch with a bright citrus tang and moderate heat from the jalapeño. The preparation requires no cooking, preserving the natural flavors and freshness of each component.

This salsa pairs well with Mexican dishes, eggs, avocado toast, grilled chicken, or as a dip with chips. Its refreshing quality cuts through rich or spicy foods and adds a zesty finish.

Make-ahead storage in the refrigerator allows the flavors to meld for an hour or two. Variations include adjusting jalapeño seeds for spiciness, mixing in diced avocado for creaminess, or adding mango for sweetness.
