Pigs in a Blanket
Description
This recipe starts by separating crescent roll dough into triangles and wrapping each hot dog in the dough. An egg wash made from beaten egg and water is brushed on top before sprinkling with sesame seeds, which add a mild nutty crunch after baking. Baking at 375°F for 12-15 minutes cooks the dough fully and develops a golden exterior. The crescent dough provides a soft but flaky texture that complements the juicy hot dog inside.
These can be served on their own or with condiments like ketchup, mustard, honey mustard, BBQ sauce, or fry sauce for added flavor. Optionally, the dough can be cut into smaller pieces for mini versions using smaller smokies or sliced hot dogs. The wrapped uncooked rolls can be prepared ahead and refrigerated for up to 24 hours before baking.
Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days and reheated in the oven at 350°F until warmed through for best texture retention.
