Pimento Cheese Sausage Balls
Description
This recipe combines typical biscuit dough ingredients—flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and sugar—with bulk sweet pork sausage and creamy pimento cheese dip. Milk and black pepper complete the dough, which is sticky but shapes into small 1-inch balls.
Baking the sausage balls at 350°F ensures they cook thoroughly while developing a lightly browned exterior. After baking, they are basted with melted butter to add moisture and richness. Optional garlic or chipotle aioli dipping sauces provide extra flavor and a creamy contrast to the savory sausage balls.
These sausage balls are great as appetizers or snacks, suitable for gatherings or casual eating. Variations include using self-rising flour instead of separate baking powders and adjusting seasonings or sausage type for spiciness or flavor changes.
The method is straightforward, allowing for batch preparation and easy serving warm, making them practical for hosting or meal prepping.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 pound pork sausage broken into small pieces, uncooked, bulk, sweet
- 1 cup pimento cheese dip , softened
- 1/4 cup milk whole
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper ground
- 2 tablespoons butter , melted
- cooking spray
- garlic aioli , optional for dipping
- chipotle aioli , optional for dipping
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly coat a rimmed baking sheet with cooking spray or line with parchment paper.

- Gently mold the sausage mixture into 1-inch balls and set a minimum of 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 20 minutes, or until center registers at 145°F and the tops are lightly browned.
- Remove and baste with the melted butter.
- Serve sausage balls hot with aioli dipping sauce, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes
- Using self-rising flour can replace the combination of all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Try spicy or flavored sausage for added heat and flavor variation.
- Chicken sausage can be substituted for pork to alter flavor and fat content.
- Adding garlic or onion powder into the melted butter before basting boosts flavor complexity.
