Pimm's Cup
Description
The Pimm's Cup cocktail centers on Pimm’s No. 1, a gin-based fruit liqueur with floral and fruity notes. This version uses freshly squeezed lemon juice and granulated sugar dissolved together to add a citrus sweetness base. Mixing in ginger ale contributes gentle carbonation and additional sweetness, while cucumber rounds add a cooling garnish for added freshness and mild bitterness.
The preparation involves dissolving sugar in lemon juice, combining it with Pimm’s liqueur and ginger ale, and serving chilled with ice in a glass garnished with cucumber. This combination yields a light, effervescent drink that balances zingy citrus with mild sweetness and herbal undertones from the Pimm’s.
This cocktail is typically enjoyed fresh, served over ice with cucumber for summertime refreshment or social occasions. The notes clarify that using authentic Pimm's No. 1 is essential for the characteristic flavor and that fresh lemon juice and sugar achieve the proper acidity and sweetness unlike simple syrup.

Notes
- Pimm's No. 1 is a gin-based fruit liqueur with light, floral, and fruity notes essential for this cocktail.
- This New Orleans style Pimm's Cup uses ginger ale and cucumber; the British version features sparkling lemonade and more fruit garnishes.
- Do not substitute simple syrup for the combined lemon juice and granulated sugar, as it alters the flavor significantly.
- Using lemons at room temperature or warmed slightly helps yield more juice for better balance.
