Pizza Casserole
Description
Pizza Casserole starts with cooking spiral pasta and browning ground beef seasoned with Italian seasoning and pizza sauce, creating a rich, savory base. The mixture is layered in a baking dish with pepperoni slices and shredded mozzarella cheese, then repeated for a double layer topped with Parmesan cheese. Baking at 350°F allows the flavors to meld, the cheese to melt thoroughly, and the top to develop a slight crust, adding texture. The combination of seasoned beef, tangy pizza sauce, melted cheese, and pepperoni results in a hearty, pizza-flavored casserole that holds well and is easy to serve in portions.
This casserole serves as a filling meal on its own, pairing well with a light salad or steamed vegetables for balance. Its recipe design supports preparing it ahead of time and baking just before serving, which adds to its practicality in home cooking.
Notes on storage suggest refrigerating leftovers tightly covered for up to three days or freezing the unbaked casserole wrapped well for up to three months. Baking time should be extended when cooking from frozen to ensure thorough heating. This versatility helps with planning and managing leftovers efficiently.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef hamburger
- 4 cups spiral pasta uncooked
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 2 cans pizza sauce 14 oz each
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese shredded
- ½ cup Parmesan Cheese shredded
- 6 ounces pepperoni
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a 9x13 inch glass dish with non-stick spray and set aside.
- Prepare spiral noodles according to package direction
- Over medium heat brown hamburger in skillet. Drain grease off. Mix in sauce and Italian seasoning and stir until combined. Then add cooked spiral noodles and mix together.
- Layer half of the pasta mixture into a prepared casserole dish then layer with half of pepperoni slices and 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top of the casserole.
- Bake for 20 minutes in a preheated oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container or wrap the casserole dish tightly to keep it fresh for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
- Freeze the casserole before baking by covering it securely with plastic wrap or foil; it can last up to 3 months frozen.
- If baking from frozen, increase the baking time by 10 to 15 minutes to ensure it heats through properly.
