Pizza Dip Recipe

Pizza Dip Recipe layers a creamy blend of softened cream cheese and sour cream seasoned with oregano and garlic salt, topped with pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni slices. Baked and broiled briefly to melt and brown the cheese and crisp the pepperoni, this hot dip pairs well with crackers, pita chips, or chips for a flavorful appetizer inspired by classic pizza toppings.

Description

The dip’s base combines brick-style cream cheese and sour cream mixed with dried oregano and garlic salt for a savory, creamy foundation. It’s spread in a pie pan, topped with canned pizza sauce and some pepperoni slices, then baked at 350°F. After an initial bake, shredded mozzarella cheese and more pepperoni are added, with further baking until melted. A final broil step crisps the cheese and pepperoni on top, watching closely to avoid burning. The finished dip is sprinkled with Italian seasoning to enhance the flavor profile.

This layered dip captures the flavors of pizza while offering a creamy, spreadable texture for dipping. It’s ideal for parties or casual gatherings where guests can scoop portions with crackers, pita, or chips. Variations can include additional toppings like mushrooms or olives mixed into the base or scattered on top before baking.

Using softened cream cheese is important for smooth mixing without lumps. Substituting marinara sauce for pizza sauce works well if pizza sauce isn’t available. Leftovers can be stored refrigerated in an airtight container for up to four days and gently reheated on the stovetop, microwave, or in a crockpot on warm.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 cream cheese 8 oz package, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1/4 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 pizza sauce canned
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
  • pepperoni for topping
  • Italian seasoning
  • chip for dipping
  • Cracker
  • pita chip

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Combine cream cheese, sour cream, oregano, and garlic salt in a medium sized bowl and mix well. Spread mixture into the bottom of 9 inch pie pan.
  3. Spread pizza sauce evenly over the top of cream cheese mixture and top with a few pepperonis. Bake for 10 minutes in the preheated oven.
  4. Remove from the oven and top with mozzarella cheese and a few more pepperonis. Return to oven and bake for 7-8 additional minutes, or until cheese is melted.
  5. Turn the broiler on and broil the top for about a minute or two, until the cheese is dotted with brown and the pepperonis crisp up a bit. WATCH THIS STEP CAREFULLY! You don't want to burn all that delicious, cheesy goodness. :)
  6. Remove from oven and sprinkle the top with italian seasoning. Serve with crackers or pita chips. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Use brick-style cream cheese fully softened for a creamy, lump-free dip base.
  • Marinara sauce can replace pizza sauce if needed without altering the flavor significantly.
  • Feel free to customize the dip by adding toppings like mushrooms, green peppers, olives, or chopped onions.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days; reheat gently on the stove, microwave, or crockpot on warm.
