Pizza Stuffed Mushrooms

Pizza stuffed mushrooms feature medium portobello mushrooms hollowed and filled with classic pizza ingredients like sauce, basil, pepperoni, and mozzarella cheese. Baked until the cheese bubbles and the mushrooms are tender, they capture the flavors of pizza in a smaller, gluten-free format. The fresh basil offers aromatic freshness that complements the savory pepperoni and melted cheese.

Description

Pizza Stuffed Mushrooms are made by removing the stems from medium portobello mushrooms, creating a cavity for layering traditional pizza toppings. The mushrooms are filled with pizza sauce, each topped with a fresh basil leaf and thinly sliced pepperoni before being covered with grated mozzarella cheese. Baking at 400° until the cheese is golden and bubbly also softens the mushrooms, making a hearty, flavorful appetizer or side dish.

This recipe mimics pizza flavors in a compact form, offering a blend of tangy sauce, aromatic basil, savory meat, and creamy melted cheese. The texture includes tender mushroom bases supporting rich toppings with a lightly crisped cheese surface.

The mushrooms can be served warm as finger food or part of a meal. Parsley garnish adds a fresh herbal note. Fresh basil leaves bring brightness, but dried basil can be substituted if fresh is unavailable, honoring the herbaceous element without altering the overall flavor much.
