Pomegranate Vanilla Sangria
Description
Pomegranate Vanilla Sangria combines a variety of sliced fruits including orange, apple, and pear with fresh pomegranate arils, cinnamon sticks, and whole vanilla beans for aroma. These ingredients mingle with a base of Spanish red wine, pomegranate soda, brandy, sugar, and vanilla extract to create a flavorful punch. The sangria is chilled for an hour beforehand, allowing the fruit to infuse the liquid. The vanilla bean pods both add complexity and fragrant vanilla flavor, balancing the bright citrus and berry notes. This sparkling drink is served with fruit and ice, providing a festive and approachable option for gatherings.
The inclusion of pomegranate soda adds carbonation and sweetness; if unavailable, substituting pomegranate juice plus ginger ale or club soda works well. Adjusting sugar to taste after chilling helps tailor the sangria to preferred sweetness levels. Pouring some fruit into each glass highlights the various textures and colors in the beverage, while the cinnamon and vanilla create subtle warm undertones beneath the fresh fruit flavors.
Ingredients
- 1 orange sliced, navel, large
- 1 apple chopped, large
- 1 pear chopped, large
- pomegranate arils of 1
- 2 cinnamon stick
- 2 Vanilla Beans
- 1 1/2 red wine I bought a Spanish red wine, bottles of
- 2 cups pomegranate soda bought mine at Trader Joe’s, sparkling
- 1/2 cup brandy
- 1/2 cup sugar possibly more depending on your wine
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Add orange slices, apples, pears, cinnamon sticks and pomegranate arils to the bottom of a big pitcher. Pour wine, pomegranate juice/soda, brandy, sugar and vanilla extract over top. Scrape vanilla beans out of their pods and add to the mix. Then throw the entire empty vanilla beans in. Mix with a giant spoon to really combine everything.
- Place in the fridge for about 1 hour before serving. Taste to determine if you’d like more sugar, and if so – add it! Spoon some of the fruit into glasses before pouring, then add ice and sangria on top.
- Note: If you can’t find the pomegranate soda, I would sub 1 1/2 cups of pomegranate juice + 1/2 cup ginger ale or club soda. Taste before adding your sugar in case it is super sweet.
