Pork and Apple Burgers
Description
This recipe starts by grating an apple and squeezing out excess liquid, then mixing it with lean pork mince, crushed garlic, panko breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper. The mixture is shaped into two patties, which are pan-fried in olive oil until cooked through with a lightly browned exterior. Mature cheddar cheese is grated over the hot burgers to melt before they are assembled on buns with optional rocket lettuce, gherkins, and burger sauce.
The texture is tender and juicy thanks to the apple’s moisture, balanced by the slight crunch of panko crumbs and the melt-in-mouth quality of the cheese topping. The blend of garlic and apple provides a mild sweetness and aroma that elevates the flavor profile beyond a standard pork burger.
These burgers suit casual meals or barbecues and pair well with sides like sweet potato fries or coleslaw. They can also be adapted by adding herbs like rosemary or thyme or cooking on the BBQ for a smokier flavor.
Practical tips include not overworking the meat mixture to avoid toughness, chilling patties to help them hold together, and freezing raw patties for later use. For a low-carb option, buns can be replaced with large lettuce leaves.
