Pork Chops with Mushroom Cream Sauce Skillet Meal

Pork Chops with Mushroom Cream Sauce is a skillet meal combining boneless pork chops seared and finished in a rich cream sauce with mushrooms, onions, and garlic. The sauce is thickened optionally with arrowroot for a velvety texture, complementing tender pork seasoned simply with salt and pepper.

Description

This skillet meal features boneless pork chops cooked until lightly browned and then kept warm while a sauce is made. Butter is used to sauté sliced onions gently until tender but not burnt, followed by adding sliced mushrooms and crushed garlic for aromatic flavor. This mixture cooks until the vegetables reach desired tenderness.

A mixture of heavy cream and optional arrowroot slurry is poured in to create a creamy sauce that thickens while the pork chops return to the skillet and cook gently to a safe internal temperature around 145°F. This results in moist pork chops surrounded by a luscious, flavorful mushroom cream sauce.

Seasoned simply with salt and black pepper, this dish benefits from careful stovetop temperature control and resting pork. It can be served on its own or alongside starches or vegetables for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 4 ¾ - 1 inch pork chops boneless
  • 1 8 ounce mushroom sliced, package
  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • 1 onion sliced, large
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 garlic crushed, cloves
  • 1 teaspoon arrowroot optional, with 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  1. Season both sides of the pork with salt and pepper. Add 1 tablespoon of butter to a large skillet and cook pork on each side for 2-3 minutes. Remove meat from skillet and transfer to a plate. Cover with foil.
  2. Add the remaining tablespoon of butter to the skillet. Add sliced onions and season with a pinch of salt. Cook stirring often to make sure the onions do not burn (about 10 minutes). Add mushrooms and garlic. Continue to cook until desired tenderness.
  3. In a small bowl whisk together arrowroot and water (if using). Whisk in cream. Add to skillet and place pork back in the skillet. Reduce heat to low and cook for 15-20 minutes uncovered or until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees
