Prosecco Margaritas
Description
Prosecco Margaritas combine key cocktail ingredients including blanco tequila, orange-flavored liqueur such as Cointreau, freshly squeezed lime juice, and simple syrup. These foundational flavors are mixed and chilled before glasses are salted on the rim and filled with ice. The margarita mix is poured into the glasses and topped off with chilled prosecco, adding bubbles and a floral sweetness to the classic margarita profile.
The drink balances tartness from lime, sweetness from syrup and liqueur, and effervescence from the prosecco. Garnishing with fresh lime wedges highlights the citrus freshness. This cocktail can be made in batches ahead of time, making it convenient for gatherings.
The instructions suggest preparing simple syrup yourself for freshness and storage convenience. Salt-rimmed glasses add the customary savory contrast. Adjusting sweetness or tartness is easy by modifying syrup or lime juice quantities when tasting before serving.
Ingredients
- 3 ounces blanco tequila or to taste
- 3 ounces orange flavored liqueur (I prefer Cointreau)
- 4 ounces simple syrup or to taste
- 8 ounces lime juice or to taste, freshly squeezed
- 1 bottle prosecco preferrably on the sweeter side, such as Dry or Demi-Sec, 750 mL chilled
- salt coarse salt for rimming glasses; fresh lime wedges or wheels for garnish
- lime coarse salt for rimming glasses; fresh lime wedges or wheels for garnish
Instructions
Make the margarita mix:
- To a jar (use something with a tight-fitting lid if preparing this ahead of time - see Notes below), add the tequila, Cointreau, simple syrup, and fresh lime juice.
Salt the glass rims:
- Run the cut edge of a lime wedge around the rim of each glass and dip the rims into a small plate of coarse salt.
Serve:
- Add ice to prepared glasses. Give margarita mix a good stir to combine, then divide amongst the glasses. Top with Prosecco. Give a quick stir to combine each individual glass, and then taste test. Adjust for individual tastes by adding more simple syrup for sweetness or lime for tartness. Add lime garnish. Enjoy!
Notes
- This recipe makes approximately 4 medium or 6 smaller margaritas.
- Mix the margarita base ahead of time and chill it in a jar with a tight lid until ready to serve.
- Store cut lime wedges or wheels in a covered container in the refrigerator for garnish.
- Prepare simple syrup by boiling equal parts sugar and water until dissolved; cool before storing in the refrigerator for up to a month.
- Salt the rims of glasses just before serving to maintain the saltiness without dissolving prematurely.
