Puff Pastry Cinnamon Rolls
Description
These cinnamon rolls start with puff pastry sheets thawed just enough to unfold without cracking. After spreading softened salted butter, they are sprinkled evenly with packed light brown sugar and ground cinnamon. The sheets are rolled jelly-roll style and cut into six pieces each, creating twelve rolls total when using two sheets.
Baked at 375°F, the rolls puff up and develop a golden crisp exterior with visible flaky layers typical of puff pastry. The cinnamon sugar melts slightly inside, providing a spiced sugary filling without needing a lengthy proofing or rise time. Once baked, a simple glaze made from powdered sugar, maple flavoring or vanilla, and heavy cream or milk is whisked until pourable and drizzled on top while rolls are warm, adding moisture and sweetness.
The resulting cinnamon rolls offer a quick, flaky pastry version with a balance of buttery, sweet, and cinnamon flavors. Best served immediately to enjoy the delicate crispness before they soften. These can function as a dessert, breakfast pastry, or snack.

Ingredients
For the rolls:
- 2 heets puff pastry 1 box, 17.3 ounces, frozen
- 4 tablespoons butter room temperature, salted
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar up to 2/3 cup if you'd like more, packed
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
For the glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar 130 grams
- 1 teaspoon maple flavoring or vanilla extract
- 3-5 tablespoons heavy cream or whole milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375º Fahrenheit. Line a 12×17 baking pan with parchment paper or a nonstick baking mat.
- Unwrap the pastry sheets and place them on a pastry mat or the countertop. Let them thaw for a few minutes until you can unfold them without them breaking. Spread two tablespoons of butter over each sheet. Then sprinkle ¼ to ⅓ cup brown sugar over each sheet. Sprinkle one tablespoon of cinnamon on each sheet.
- Roll each sheet up jelly roll style. Using a sharp knife, cut each roll into 6 equal peices, for a total of 12 rolls.
- Place the rolls cut side up on the baking tray. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown and puffed up.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, maple flavor and heavy cream until smooth and to the consistency of a drizzle. You can make it thinner or thicker by adding more or less milk. Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls.
- Best served immediately.
Notes
- The recipe yields 12 rolls; nutrition values per roll may vary by ingredients used.
- Use just enough thawing time so puff pastry can be unfolded without breaking.
- Adjust brown sugar quantity to taste; ½ cup per sheet is standard but up to ⅔ cup can increase sweetness.
- Glaze consistency can be adjusted by varying the amount of cream or milk added.
- Best served immediately while rolls are warm to preserve flaky texture and glaze freshness.
