Pumpkin Pie
Description
The pie crust is placed in a pie plate before pouring in a mixture of pureed pumpkin, sugar, eggs, evaporated milk, and warming spices including cinnamon, ground ginger, freshly grated nutmeg, and salt. The pie is baked initially at a high temperature to set the custard's edges, then the oven temperature is lowered for a longer bake to allow the filling to cook thoroughly without cracking. This technique yields a custard that is firm yet creamy.
The pumpkin filling is smooth and richly spiced, balancing sweetness with gentle warmth from the cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. The evaporated milk enriches the texture while maintaining silken consistency. The crust holds the filling and contributes a buttery, flaky base that contrasts with the soft filling.
Pumpkin Pie is typically served at room temperature or chilled, often accompanied by whipped cream. It is a traditional staple in fall and holiday meals, valued for its comforting flavors and smooth texture that showcase pumpkin's natural sweetness and spices.
