Pumpkin Spice Latte
Description
This Pumpkin Spice Latte starts by brewing a strong coffee or espresso base. Meanwhile, a mixture of milk, half and half (or light cream), sugar, pumpkin puree, and traditional pumpkin pie spice is heated gently to infuse the flavors and dissolve the sugar without boiling. The pumpkin puree provides a natural flavor and subtle thickness to the milk component.
Once heated, the spiced milk mixture is divided into mugs and combined with the coffee. Optional additions of liqueur such as Baileys or hazelnut liquor can be stirred in. The latte is topped with whipped cream and, if desired, a drizzle of caramel sauce for added sweetness and richness.
For those preferring an iced version, the milk mixture can be cooled and the coffee served over ice. Adjustments to sugar levels are possible to suit individual preferences. The recipe provides flexibility in coffee strength, dairy choices, and optional alcohol inclusion, catering to various tastes.
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk any kind
- ⅓ cup half and half or light cream
- 1 ½ tablespoons granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons pumpkin puree
- ½ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
- 1 cup coffee or 4 ounces espresso, strong brewed
- 2 ounces baileys or hazelnut liquor, optional
- Whipped Cream and caramel sauce for topping
Instructions
- Brew 1 cup of strong coffee (I use a dark roast k-cup and use the smallest cup size of my machine, I brew two batches to make 1 cup).
- Combine milk, cream, sugar, pumpkin puree, and pumpkin pie spice in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat until hot but not boiling. Once small bubbles form along the edges, remove from the heat.
- Divide the milk mixture between 2 mugs (add liquor if using).
- Add coffee (or shots of espresso, see note) to the milk mixture.
- Top with whipped cream, additional pumpkin pie spice, and a drizzle of caramel sauce if you'd like.
Notes
- If using espresso, increase the milk to 1 1/2 cups and omit the cream for balance.
- To serve iced, heat and then cool the milk mixture before pouring it over ice with coffee.
- This latte is lightly sweetened; additional sugar or sugar-free sweeteners can be added to taste.
