Pumpkin Spice Simple Syrup

This pumpkin spice simple syrup combines real pumpkin purée with both white and brown sugars, along with warm pumpkin spice seasoning. The syrup is simmered briefly to meld flavors and then cooled before use. It lends a seasonal, spiced sweetness to drinks or desserts, with a smooth consistency achieved by optionally straining out pumpkin solids. This syrup is ideal for adding autumnal notes to beverages or recipes.

Description

The Pumpkin Spice Simple Syrup starts by combining fresh pumpkin purée, white sugar, brown sugar, pumpkin spice seasoning, and water in a pot. The mixture is brought to a boil and then simmered to fully incorporate flavors. Cooling allows the syrup to thicken slightly. Straining is optional but recommended to reduce pulp for a smoother syrup. It stores refrigerated for about one week, and some sediment may settle during storage, so shaking before use is advised.

The syrup balances the natural earthiness of pumpkin with sweet sugars and warm spices, creating a versatile liquid sweetener. It can be added to coffee, tea, cocktail recipes, or desserts for a spiced pumpkin flavor without the texture of pumpkin solids.

This recipe yields approximately 1.5 cups of syrup and works best when using smooth pumpkin purée made in a food processor or blender to maintain consistency.

  • Use homemade pumpkin purée processed until very smooth for best texture.
  • Shake the syrup before each use as sediment can settle over time.
