Quiche Recipe
Description
The Quiche Recipe features a traditional savory custard baked in a flaky pie crust. The main components include a refrigerated crust, beaten eggs mixed with milk, diced cooked ham, finely chopped green onions, and shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses. Once combined in the crust, the quiche is baked at 375°F until the center is fully set, with care taken to prevent the crust from over-browning. The final product has a light, tender filling with a slight creaminess from the cheeses and milk, balanced by the salt and pepper seasoning.
The quiche can be sliced and served warm or at room temperature, suitable for breakfast, brunch, or a light dinner. Using ham and green onions provides a mild savory flavor with subtle freshness from the onions. The dual cheese types add both sharpness and creaminess, enhancing the texture and taste of the quiche.
This recipe is flexible, allowing different proteins or cheeses to be used according to preference. Cooling the quiche before refrigerating leftovers helps maintain its texture, and leftovers last up to five days when stored airtight.
Ingredients
- 1 pie crust refrigerated
- 6 egg large
- 3/4 cup milk or heavy cream, whole
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 cup ham diced, cooked
- 2 green onions (finely chopped)
- 3/4 cup cheddar cheese (shredded) divided
- 3/4 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded) divided
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
- Place the pie crust into the bottom of a 9 inch pie pan. Crimp the edges of the pie crust and gently stab the bottom of the crush with a fork to prevent it from puffing up too much while baking.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt and pepper.
- Sprinkle the ham, green onions and 1/2 cup of each type of shredded cheeses into the pie crust.
- Pour the egg mixture on top of these ingredients in the pie crust.
- Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese on top.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes until the center is completely set. Gently tent the top of the quiche with foil for the last 10-15 minutes of the cook time if the crust starts to get too brown.
- Let the quiche cool for 5-10 minutes to set and then it’s ready to slice and serve.
Notes
- You may substitute ham with cooked sausage or bacon to vary the protein.
- Feel free to swap cheddar and mozzarella with other melting cheeses like Gruyere or white cheddar.
- Allow the quiche to cool completely at room temperature before refrigerating any leftovers.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
