Quick and Easy Maple Turkey Chili
Description
Quick and Easy Maple Turkey Chili starts by softening onions, red bell pepper, and garlic in olive oil, then browning lean ground turkey. Chili powder, smoked paprika, oregano, cumin, and crushed red pepper flakes are stirred in to build a complex spice profile. Adding fire roasted tomatoes, pinto beans, chicken stock, and maple syrup creates a savory and slightly sweet mixture.
The chili simmers covered for 20 to 30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the texture to thicken. The meat remains tender while the beans add heartiness. The maple syrup adds a subtle sweetness that offsets the heat and smoky spices.
This chili pairs well with tortilla chips, avocado, or sour cream to complement the spicy and sweet balance. It can be doubled for larger groups and adapted for slow cooker preparation, offering flexibility for meal planning.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion diced
- 1 red bell pepper diced
- 4 garlic minced, cloves
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 pound ground turkey lean
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon oregano dried
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes crushed
- 1 fire roasted tomatoes 14 ounce can
- 1 pinto beans 15 ounce can, drained and rinsed
- 1/2 to 3/4 cups chicken stock
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium-low heat. Add the onions, peppers and garlic with a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add in the ground turkey and another pinch of salt and pepper. Break it apart with a wooden spoon and brown it, about 6 to 8 minutes. Once the meat is browned, add in the chili powder, paprika, oregano, cumin and red pepper flakes. Stir and cook for 2 minutes.
- Add in the tomatoes, beans, stock and maple syrup. Bring the mixture to a boil then reduce it to a simmer. Cover and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes. Serve with tortilla chips, avocado, sour cream or whatever you love on your chili!
Notes
- This recipe can be doubled to serve larger groups without changing cooking times.
- Simmer covered on the stove longer if needed; flavors will deepen without drying the chili.
- For slow cooker use, brown the turkey first, then cook on high for 4 hours or low for 6–8 hours.
