Quick Gyoza dipping sauce

This Gyoza sauce recipe is a delicious, super quick Japanese dipping sauce for potstickers (gyoza dumplings), tofu, rice bowls or even stir-fries. The magic happens with a blend of soy sauce, garlic, ginger, a touch of honey and rice vinegar. This mix creates a savoury, slightly sweet flavour that adds a delicious umami kick to any dish.

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a bowl and mix until well combined. Ensure the honey is well incorporated as it's consistency tends to make it sink towards the bottom.
  2. Divide into dipping bowls and serve.

Notes

  • Yep, you can leave it out.
  • No, you can have it straight from the fridge or at room temperature.
  • You can decide how spicy you would like your Japanese Gyoza sauce by adjusting the quantity of chilli flakes or chilli oil you add.
  • You can also leave it out entirely if you don't want a hot sauce.
  • Something on the milder side may be more suitable for the whole family, especially where small children are involved.
  • In theory, not really. It contains a lot of sodium which is a very good preserving agent.
  • However, personally, we would not keep it for longer than a month to be on the safe side. Ensure you only keep clean sauce that's not been used for dipping food in.
  • It will be vegan-friendly if you leave out the optional honey, other than that, all the ingredients are vegan.
