Ranch Oyster Crackers
Description
The Ranch Oyster Crackers recipe uses dry oyster crackers coated in a mixture of vegetable oil and a combination of ranch seasoning, garlic powder, dried parsley, dill, and smoked paprika. These crackers are spread evenly on a baking sheet and baked at a low oven temperature (250°F) in two stages with a toss in between, ensuring a thorough, even coating and crisp texture.
The baking process gently toasts the crackers without burning, allowing flavors to meld into the surface. This seasoning combination produces a savory snack with herby, slightly tangy ranch notes, balanced by garlic and a hint of heat from smoked paprika. The crackers maintain a crisp texture suitable for grazing from a bowl.
Serve these crackers as a snack or alongside drinks for casual occasions. They keep well stored in an airtight container for up to a week, allowing the flavors to mature while preserving crispness. Adjustments such as substituting olive oil or modifying spices allow tailoring the flavor to personal preference.
Ingredients
- 9 oz. oyster crackers or 100 crackers
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 1 ranch seasoning equal to 2 tablespoons, 1-oz. packet
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon parsley dried
- 1 teaspoon dill dried
- 1/8 teaspoon smoked paprika
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 250° F.
- In a small bowl, combine oil, ranch seasoning, garlic powder, parsley, dill, and paprika. Transfer it to a gallon freezer bag and add the crackers. Seal, and gently toss to coat.
- Distribute in an even layer on a ½ sheet pan. Bake at 250 for 15 minutes. Remove and gently toss to coat. Bake for 10 more minutes. Let cool (at least slightly) prior to serving.
Notes
- Use ranch seasoning mix, not ranch dip mix, as the seasoning flavor differs notably.
- Olive oil can replace vegetable oil for a different taste.
- Dried dill can be omitted if disliked; cayenne pepper can be added for heat.
- Store crackers in an airtight container up to 7 days to maintain crispness.
- This recipe yields 5 servings, approximately 20 crackers each.
