Red Lobster Biscuits (a copycat recipe)
Description
The recipe uses a baking mix as the base to create biscuit dough that is soft and slightly sticky once water and cheddar cheese are added. Forming the dough into biscuit shapes or using a cookie scoop creates drop biscuits that bake in about 10 to 12 minutes in a 375°F oven. The quick baking yields tender, cheesy biscuits with a delicate crumb.
While the biscuits bake, a butter mixture with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, parsley, and cracked black pepper is prepared. Brushing this seasoned butter on warm biscuits right after they come out of the oven enhances both flavor and moisture, giving the biscuits a rich savory crust.
The biscuits can be eaten warm or at room temperature, with many preferring them straight out of the oven for maximum softness. Using a homemade or store-bought biscuit mix and adjusting water to form a soft dough ensures the biscuits hold shape without becoming dry.
Ingredients
For the biscuits
- 4 cups baking mix
- 1/2 cup cheddar cheese freshly grated
- 1 1/2 cup water (maybe less, see notes)
For the butter topping
- 1/2 cup butter melted
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon parsley dried
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper cracked
Instructions
- Heat oven to 375 degrees F
- In a large bowl, add the baking mix (see notes).
- Add the cheddar to the bowl, and enough water to allow a soft dough to form.
- Scoop onto a baking sheet (I used a cookie scoop, you could use a spoon), and bake for 10-12 minutes.
- While the biscuits are baking in the oven, melt butter, add the salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and dried parsley and mix until well combined.
- Right after removing the biscuits from the oven, brush butter-garlic mixture on the tops.
- Devour.
Notes
- Use a store-bought baking mix like Bisquick or make your own homemade biscuit mix.
- Add water gradually between 1/3 and 1/2 cup until a slightly sticky soft dough forms.
- Use a cookie scoop for drop biscuits or a biscuit cutter for round, flat shapes without much kneading.
- Serve biscuits warm and fresh from the oven for best texture and flavor.
