Red Velvet Cinnamon Rolls
Description
These Red Velvet Cinnamon Rolls start with a yeast dough made by combining warm water, instant yeast, red velvet cake mix, and flour. After the dough rises until doubled, it is rolled out into a rectangular shape and brushed with softened butter. A mixture of brown sugar and ground cinnamon is sprinkled atop, lending the characteristic cinnamon roll spice. The dough is then rolled up tightly and sliced into 12 individual rolls, which undergo a second rise before baking.
The rolls bake in the oven at 350°F for 18 to 20 minutes until cooked through and lightly browned. While they cool, a cream cheese frosting is prepared by beating softened cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to a smooth, spreadable consistency. The frosting is spread over the warm rolls, complementing the spiced red velvet base with creamy sweetness. The optional red heart sprinkles add a decorative touch. These rolls deliver tender, soft texture with a mild chocolatey and cinnamon flavor from the cake mix and filling. They can be served warm for a comforting brunch or dessert.
