Roasted Broccoli with Soy Sauce

Roasted Broccoli with Soy Sauce offers tender broccoli florets enhanced with toasted sesame oil, fresh garlic, and ginger, finished with butter and soy sauce for a savory glaze. Roasting develops a slightly browned, caramelized texture, while the butter and soy sauce create a rich coating. This side dish balances aromatic spices with a subtle umami finish.

Description

This recipe uses broccoli florets tossed in toasted sesame oil, minced garlic, grated fresh ginger, salt, and pepper, then roasted at a high temperature to achieve tender-crisp broccoli with some lightly browned edges. Midway through roasting, thin slices of unsalted butter and soy sauce are added to melt over the broccoli, creating a flavorful glaze that coats each piece.

The garlic and ginger provide aromatic warmth, complemented by the richness of butter and the salty umami depth of soy sauce. The broccoli’s texture remains firm with pleasant roasted crispness on the edges.

Roasted Broccoli with Soy Sauce can be served immediately as a side to grilled or pan-fried proteins or incorporated into rice or noodle dishes. It is best enjoyed fresh for the best texture and flavor.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 8 cups (24 oz) broccoli cut into 1 1/2-inch (4-cm) chunks, florets
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil toasted
  • 4 garlic finely chopped, cloves
  • 1 tablespoon ginger grated fresh
  • 4 tablespoons (2 oz) butter cut in thin slices, unsalted
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce low-sodium; or substitute gluten-free tamari
  • salt to taste, Kosher salt and freshly ground
  • black pepper to taste, Kosher salt and freshly ground

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. On a rimmed baking sheet, spread the broccoli florets in a single layer and sprinkle with the sesame oil, garlic, ginger, salt, and pepper. Stir everything around to coat the broccoli evenly.
  3. Pop the baking sheet in the oven and roast, uncovered, for 15 minutes.
  4. Remove the baking sheet from the oven, stir the broccoli, and scatter the butter slices evenly on the broccoli. Drizzle the soy sauce evenly over the broccoli and butter and roast until lightly browned, about 5 minutes longer.
  5. Stir everything around to make sure there’s some butter and soy sauce coating every bite. Devour immediately.
