Roasted Butternut Squash with Brown Sugar

Roasted Butternut Squash with Brown Sugar combines tender, caramelized chunks of squash coated in a sweet and savory mixture of brown sugar, maple syrup, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Baking until browned creates a pleasing texture contrast with soft centers and crisp edges. Sprinkled parsley adds a touch of freshness. This approach highlights the natural sweetness and earthiness of the squash, making it a flavorful side or vegetarian main component.

Description

This recipe upholds a classic roasting technique for butternut squash cubes with a drizzle of olive oil and a sweet glaze using brown sugar and maple syrup. Roasting at 400°F for about 25-30 minutes tenderizes the squash while promoting caramelization on its surfaces, which adds depth and a mild sweetness. Stirring the squash every 10 minutes encourages even cooking and browning.

The result is squash with a balance of soft bite and lightly crisp edges, complemented by a hint of maple and brown sugar sweetness, seasoned with salt and pepper for balance. Parsley, if used, adds a subtle herbaceous note brightening the dish.

This simple roasted squash pairs well with roasted meats or as part of a vegetarian meal. Using pre-cut butternut squash can speed preparation, and lining the baking sheet with foil helps ease cleanup.
