Roasted Figs With Gorgonzola And Honey

Roasted Figs With Gorgonzola And Honey is a simple yet elegant appetizer featuring fresh figs stuffed with creamy Gorgonzola cheese, drizzled with honey, and baked briefly to meld flavors. The dish is finished with chopped honey-glazed pecans, basil leaves, and freshly cracked black pepper for balance.

Description

This recipe centers on fresh figs that are trimmed and lightly cut, then drizzled with olive oil before a short initial roasting. The figs are then filled with tangy Gorgonzola cheese and sprinkled with dried thyme. A final drizzle of honey enhances sweetness, and a second brief roasting softens the cheese and warms the fruit without losing juiciness.

The dish’s flavor profile balances the sweet, tender figs with the sharp, creamy cheese and fragrant thyme. The toasted pecans provide crunch and honey glaze adds additional sweet notes, while fresh basil leaves and ground black pepper provide herbal and spicy accents. The figs remain juicy from the relatively short total roasting time of about 15 minutes, but cooking can be extended slightly for a more caramelized texture if desired.

Serving immediately best preserves texture and flavor, though leftovers will keep refrigerated in a sealed container for 1-2 days. Freezing is not recommended due to texture changes. Alternative cheeses like Dolcelatte, goat cheese, or Stilton can be used to suit taste preferences.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 6 figs wash and pat dry, fresh
  • 120 grams gorgonzola ½ cup or goats cheese/stilton
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • teaspoon thyme dried
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • black pepper freshly ground
  • 3 pecan chopped, honey glazed
  • 6 small basil to garnish, leaves

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200℃/180℃fan/400℉.
  2. Trim the fig stem and cut an X from the top ¾ down (don't cut all the way through).
  3. Arrange on a baking tray, drizzle with olive oil and bake for 5 minutes.
  4. Remove from the oven and using a teaspoon, stuff each fig with the cheese and sprinkle a little dried thyme over the top. Drizzle with honey and bake for 10 minutes.
  5. Remove from oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before garnishing with freshly ground black pepper, crushed pecans and basil leaves.

Notes

  • Use fresh, ripe figs for best results; unripe figs will not work well in this recipe.
  • Gorgonzola Piccante offers a robust flavor, while milder options like Dolcelatte, goat cheese, or Stilton can be substituted.
  • For a juicier texture, roast figs for a total of 15 minutes; increase first roasting time to 15 minutes for a more caramelized, chewy finish.
  • Serve the figs warm soon after baking; they can be stored in the fridge in a sealed container for 1-2 days but do not freeze well.
