Roasted Garlic Recipe
Description
This straightforward recipe involves removing the papery outer skin of a whole garlic bulb and slicing off its top to expose the individual cloves. Olive oil is drizzled over the exposed cloves before wrapping the bulb tightly in aluminum foil. The wrapped bulb is placed on a baking sheet and roasted in a 400°F oven for 40 to 50 minutes, or until the cloves become soft and golden.
Once cooled, the softened cloves can be squeezed out from their skins and mashed to create a smooth, spreadable garlic. The roasted garlic has a mild, sweet flavor and creamy texture, suitable for spreading on bread, incorporating into sauces, or adding depth to other dishes.
Storage in an airtight container refrigerated for up to a week allows convenient use in various recipes. Roasting garlic in this way mellows its pungency and enhances its natural sweetness.
Ingredients
- 1 garlic bulb
- 2 Tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Remove the papery skin of the bulb and cut the top of the garlic bulb so the top of the cloves is exposed. Drizzle some olive oil and place them in an aluminum foil pouch.
- Place the foil pouch on a baking sheet and roast at 400 F for about 40-50 minutes, or until soft and golden.
- Once cool, squeeze out the cloves of garlic and mash them to use in recipes, or store them in an air-tight container in the fridge for a week.
