Root Beer Pulled Pork Sandwiches
Description
This recipe features a pork shoulder cooked in root beer, which imparts a subtle sweetness and moisture as it slowly breaks down over 6 hours in a slow cooker or about 35 minutes in an Instant Pot. After shredding, the pork is combined with barbecue sauce to enhance savory and tangy flavors. Serving the mixture on hamburger buns creates a classic pulled pork sandwich experience.
The root beer not only tenderizes the meat but also adds a unique flavor dimension without overpowering the pork. The barbecue sauce enriches the final dish with smoky and tangy notes. The sandwich is straightforward to prepare, relying on slow cooking to achieve tender, juicy pork suitable for casual meals or gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 (2 pound) pork shoulder tenderloin can be used for a leaner option, or butt
- 1 (12 ounce) root beer canned
- 1 (18 ounce) barbecue sauce bottled
- 8 Hamburger Bun
Instructions
- Place the pork in a slow cooker and pour the can of root beer over the meat. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or until pork shreds easily with a fork.
- After pork has cooked, drain and discard the root beer. Shred the pork and place it back in the slow cooker. Pour the barbecue sauce over the pork and stir to combine. Serve immediately or keep warm in slow cooker until ready to serve. Serve on hamburger buns.
- For the Instant Pot: Cook on high pressure for about 35 minutes. Let pressure release and continue to step two.
