  • 8 lices sandwich bread (see recipe notes)
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 8 lices cheddar or Gouda cheese (see recipe notes)
  • 8 lices cooked ham York ham (see recipe notes)
  • 2 large tomato thinly sliced.
  • 1 large red onion thinly sliced

Instructions

1. Cut the crust

  1. Cut the crust off the bread slices.

2. Assemble sandwich

  1. Spread each slice of bread with butter on one side. Top that side with a slice of cheese.Top one slice with ham, tomato, and onion (optional). Put both halves together.

3. Toast

  1. In a sandwich press or frying pan, toast the bread by pressing until the bread browns and the cheese melts.

4. Serving

  1. Cut the sandwiches into two triangles each (optional) and serve. See serving suggestions on the recipe.
