Description
Sausage Alfredo Pasta starts by cooking dry pasta until tender, then draining it. Meanwhile, butter and garlic are sautéed until fragrant and slightly browned, forming the base of the sauce. Heavy cream is slowly incorporated and simmered to thicken before seasoning with salt, pepper, and optional red pepper flakes. Grated Parmesan cheese is added to enrich the sauce further. Sliced, fully cooked smoked sausage is folded in, imparting a smoky, meaty flavor that complements the creamy sauce. Finally, the sauce and sausage are mixed with cooked pasta to serve a warm, richly flavored meal. The grated cheese melts better than pre-shredded varieties, improving sauce texture. Bowtie or other pasta shapes work well with the sauce coating.
Ingredients
- 1 pound pasta dry, 16 ounce
- ½ cup butter unsalted
- 3 cloves garlic pressed
- 3 cups heavy cream
- 1 ½ teaspoons kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional, crushed
- 1 ½ cups Parmesan Cheese grated
- 12 oz smoked sausage sliced, fully cooked
Instructions
- Cook pasta according to package directions, drain.
- While pasta cooks, add butter and garlic to a large skillet over medium high heat. Cook for about 2-3 minutes, until butter is melted and garlic begins to brown.
- Slowly add in heavy cream, salt, and pepper. Simmer until sauce thickens on medium heat, about 8-10 minutes. Stir frequently.
- Add in Parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes (optional). Stir in sliced sausage and add to pot with drained pasta. Stir together, serve, and enjoy!
Notes
- Use freshly grated Parmesan cheese from blocks for better melting and flavor.
- Bowtie pasta is recommended, but any pasta can be used.
- For more heat, add extra red pepper flakes over individual servings.
- Spicy Italian sausage can substitute smoked sausage for increased spice.
