Sausage Breakfast Casserole
Description
The Sausage Breakfast Casserole starts with a base of crescent roll dough spread in a baking dish. Cooked, crumbled sausage is layered over the dough, followed by eggs whisked with milk, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cheddar cheese tops the casserole, which bakes until the eggs are set and the crust is golden and crisp.
The casserole offers a combination of flaky dough, savory sausage, moist egg custard, and melted cheese, resulting in a hearty, textured breakfast or brunch dish. The 400°F baking ensures a well-cooked interior without sogginess.
This dish can be assembled ahead and refrigerated, or fully baked, cooled, and frozen for meal prep. Leftovers store well in the fridge and reheat conveniently, adding to its practicality as a make-ahead option.
Ingredients
- 1 pound sausage
- 1 package crescent roll dough sheet
- 5 egg
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F.
- Brown sausage in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it up as it cooks. Unroll the crescent sheet and spread it onto the bottom of a greased 9×13 baking dish. Evenly spread sausage over the dough.
- In a medium bowl, whisk eggs, milk, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Pour over the top of your casserole, and sprinkle the cheese on top.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until the eggs are set and the crust is golden.
Notes
- Assemble up to 8 hours ahead and refrigerate; allow extra baking time if baking cold from fridge.
- For freezing, bake fully, cool, then wrap tightly; store up to 3 months in freezer.
- Leftovers keep airtight in fridge for up to 4 days; reheat in microwave or oven.
