Sausage Cream Cheese Casserole
Description
The recipe begins with fully cooked pork sausage crumbles mixed and warmed with cream cheese to create a creamy, rich filling. This mixture is spread over a layer of crescent roll dough pressed into a baking pan. A second layer of crescent roll dough covers the sausage mixture, with all seams pinched tightly to seal the filling inside. Baking at 375°F for 14–16 minutes bakes the dough to a golden crust while heating the filling through.
The final result is a casserole with a tender, flaky crust and a smooth, savory interior combining sausage and cream cheese. It provides a satisfying texture contrast and balanced richness.
Originally, fully cooked sausage crumbles are used for convenience, but uncooked pork sausage can be browned and drained before combining with cream cheese. The casserole can be baked on a tray or in a 9x13 dish, with slight adjustments to baking time. It is recommended to seal dough seams well to keep the filling contained during baking.
Ingredients
- 2 (9.6-ounce) packages pork sausage fully cooked, Jimmy Dean crumbles
- 8 ounces cream cheese
- 2 (8-ounce) packages crescent rolls
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Place sausage crumbles and cream cheese in a medium pot and cook on low heat until combined and warm.
- Unroll crescent roll dough onto a greased pan and pinch seams together.
- Pour the sausage and cream cheese mixture over the dough and spread it around.
- Unroll the second crescent roll dough and place it over the top of the sausage. Pinch seams together and pinch the two crescent roll doughs all around the edges.
- Bake for 14-16 minutes. Serve warm. ENJOY!
Notes
- Fully cook sausage before mixing with cream cheese, or brown and drain uncooked sausage if using fresh.
- Allow sausage and cream cheese mixture to cool before assembling to ease handling.
- Seal crescent roll seams firmly to prevent filling leakage during baking.
- Store leftovers refrigerated up to 3-4 days or freeze for 2-3 months; reheat before serving.
- Try baking in a 9x13-inch dish or on a tray, increasing bake time by about 5 minutes if needed.
