Sausage Roll

This Sausage Roll recipe features a mix of ground sausage, chopped onions, cheeses, and picante sauce wrapped in crescent roll dough and baked until golden. The filling combines savory sausage with melted Swiss and cheddar cheese, while the crescent dough provides a flaky exterior. The roll is brushed with butter for a rich finish and sliced to serve as a warm appetizer or snack.

Description

The preparation begins with frying ground sausage and chopped onions until cooked and properly drained of excess fat. Once slightly cooled, the mixture is combined with beaten eggs, grated Swiss and cheddar cheeses, picante sauce, and parsley to form a flavorful filling. Crescent roll dough is rolled out thinly and evenly spread with the meat mixture. The dough is then rolled up like a jelly roll, transferred to a cookie sheet, and brushed with melted butter.

The assembled roll is baked at 400°F for 20 minutes until the dough is golden brown and cooked through. After baking, the sausage roll is sliced for easy serving. The combination of creamy cheeses, spicy-sweet picante sauce, and seasoned sausage encased in flaky dough creates a satisfying handheld food suitable for parties or casual meals.
