Sausage Wontons

Sausage Wontons are baked cups made from crisped wonton wrappers filled with a savory mixture of cooked ground sausage, shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses, diced green bell peppers, and ranch dressing. The combination yields a rich, creamy, and mildly tangy filling inside a crunchy wrapper shell. These bite-sized pockets can serve as snacks, appetizers, or party finger food with a warm, cheesy, and slightly spicy flavor profile.

Description

This recipe starts by pressing wonton wrappers into a greased muffin tin and baking them briefly until lightly browned and crisp. Meanwhile, the ground sausage is cooked with seasoned salt until browned and drained of grease. The cooked sausage is mixed with shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses, chopped green bell peppers, and buttermilk ranch dressing to create a creamy, flavorful filling.

The pre-baked wonton wrappers become crisp and sturdy shells to hold the rich sausage and cheese filling after the mixture is spooned in. The filled wontons are baked briefly at 350°F until the filling heats through and becomes bubbly. The contrast of the crispy wonton exterior with the cheesy, savory interior provides a satisfying texture combination.

These wontons are ideal as warm appetizers or party snacks. They can be made ahead by preparing the filling in advance and assembling before baking. The recipe yields about a dozen filled wontons sized for individual servings.
