Sautéed Brussels Sprouts with Lemon Garlic Butter

This recipe sautés halved Brussels sprouts in olive oil until golden and tender, then finishes them with butter, red pepper flakes, garlic, and fresh lemon zest and juice for a bright, savory side dish. The sprouts develop a caramelized exterior and a tender interior enhanced by a garlic-lemon butter sauce with a mild kick.

Description

Halved Brussels sprouts are cooked in olive oil over medium-high heat until some edges turn golden brown and the centers yield to a fork, which usually takes 10 to 15 minutes. The even cooking is ensured by stirring halfway through. Butter, red pepper flakes, and roughly chopped garlic are then added and sautéed briefly to infuse the dish with rich butter and garlic aroma and a subtle heat from the red pepper flakes.

Finishing the dish with freshly grated lemon zest and lemon juice adds brightness and a slight tang that balances the richness of the butter. The sautéed sprouts develop a balance of caramelization, savory butter, garlic flavor, and fresh citrus, making them suitable as a flavorful vegetable side to various meals.

Optional additions like crisp cooked bacon can add richness. The method is direct and requires attention to cooking time to achieve tender yet crisp sprouts without burning.
