Sauteed Garlic Butter Mushrooms
Description
The mushrooms are cooked slowly over medium heat in butter until browned and very tender, releasing their moisture and concentrating flavors. The addition of both minced garlic and garlic powder layers the garlic essence without overpowering. Herbs such as fresh thyme or substitutes like dried Italian seasoning complement the mushrooms with an aromatic note.
This dish can be served as a side or topping, adding rich umami and fragrant garlic to any meal. Seasoning with salt and pepper enhances the natural mushroom flavor and the butter's richness. The recipe emphasizes freshness for best results but allows dried herbs if fresh are unavailable.
The mushrooms are best served immediately to enjoy their tender texture and vibrant garlic aroma.
Ingredients
- 1 pound mushrooms fresh
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 2 teaspoons garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon thyme in a pinch you can substitute 1 teaspoon dried Italian blend seasoning, chopped fresh
Instructions
- Add butter and garlic to a large pan. Melt butter over medium heat.
- Stir in mushrooms and herbs (or Italian seasoning). Saute over medium heat 5-7 minutes until garlic is fragrant and mushrooms are browned and very tender.

Notes
- Herbs de Provence is a great alternative to fresh thyme or Italian seasoning in this recipe.
- Taste before adding salt if using salted butter to avoid over-seasoning.
