Sautéed Green Beans
Description
This recipe prepares green beans by first rinsing and trimming the ends, then cooking them in olive oil over medium-high heat until they begin to soften and develop slight browning. Fresh garlic is pressed in near the end of cooking with salt and pepper to finish seasoning, then cooked briefly more before serving and optional garnishing.
The resulting beans have a tender yet slightly crisp texture with some caramelized edges from the sauté. The garlic infuses a mild pungency, complemented by the olive oil’s richness. Optional toppings such as Parmesan add a salty dimension, toasted pine nuts provide crunch, red pepper flakes introduce heat, and fresh parsley adds herbaceous brightness.
Sautéed green beans are a versatile vegetable side that pairs well with a variety of main courses. Leftovers keep well in the refrigerator for 3-4 days and reheat successfully, supporting meal prep needs.
This dish is naturally gluten-free, dairy-free (without Parmesan), low carb, and Whole30 compliant, providing flexible options for dietary preferences when garnishing is chosen accordingly.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 12 oz green beans
- 2 cloves garlic fresh
- 1/8 tsp salt - or to taste
- 1/8 tsp black pepper or to taste
Toppings (optional)
- Parmesan Cheese
- pine nuts toasted
- red pepper flakes crushed
- parsley fresh chopped
Instructions
- Rinse and dry the green beans completely. Break or cut off the ends of each bean.
- Heat 1 tbsp of olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Once heated add the green beans and cook for 6-7 minutes for thin green beans, or 8-9 minutes for thick green beans, stirring regularly until they begin to soften and brown slightly on the outside.
- Use a garlic press to press in the garlic. Then stir in the salt and pepper to taste and cook and additional 2 minutes. Remove from the heat.
- Garnish as desired and serve.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days; reheat in microwave or on stovetop.
- Choose optional garnishes considering dietary restrictions; the sautéed green beans alone are gluten-free, dairy-free, low carb, and Whole30 compliant.
