Sauteed Mushroom Appetizer (Crazy Easy)

This sautéed mushroom appetizer features whole mushrooms cooked with diced onion, garlic, and Parmesan cheese in olive oil. The preparation highlights the mushrooms’ texture and savory flavor, enhanced by the garlic and Parmesan. Quick to prepare, this dish serves as a warm, flavorful starter or side.

Description

The Sauteed Mushroom Appetizer begins with cleaning whole mushrooms thoroughly without soaking, avoiding excess moisture that could hinder sautéing. After drying, diced onions are softened in olive oil over medium heat.

Whole mushrooms are added and cooked until they release moisture and begin to soften. Seasoned with salt and combined with pressed fresh garlic, the mixture is finished by stirring in grated Parmesan cheese. The cheese melts slightly, adding a rich, savory note that complements the earthy mushrooms.

This dish is served immediately to maintain the mushrooms’ tender texture and the slight bite of the melted cheese. It works well as a quick appetizer or accompaniment to other dishes, offering a blend of savory taste and pleasant texture from its simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 lb mushrooms
  • 1/2 onion
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese
  • 1 tsp olive oil for frying
  • 1 tsp salt adjust to taste

Instructions

  1. Clean the mushrooms under cool water, pat them dry with a paper towel, and allow them to sit on a paper towel to dry. Note: Never let mushrooms soak in water, as they will lose flavor and absorb so much moisture they will be hard to sauté.
  2. Preheat a skillet with a little bit of hot oil over medium heat. Add the diced onions and cook until softened.
  3. Add the whole mushrooms to the skillet and season them with a bit of salt. Cook the mushrooms until they soften. Press fresh garlic into the skillet and stir to combine.
  4. Stir the grated parmesan into the skillet. Serve immediately and enjoy!
