Savory and Spicy Memphis Dry Rub for Ribs

The Savory and Spicy Memphis Dry Rub is a dry seasoning blend consisting of paprika, salt, pepper, various seeds, herbs, and spices. Designed to enhance ribs, it adds layered flavors including smoky, spicy, and herbal notes. The blend can be applied generously to meat before cooking to form a flavorful crust.

Description

This dry rub combines kosher salt, paprika, garlic powder, chili powder, black pepper, brown sugar, mustard seed, celery seed and salt, coriander seed and ground coriander, onion powder, oregano, thyme, rosemary, allspice, cayenne pepper, and optionally MSG. The mix is intended to season ribs by rubbing about one tablespoon per pound. The spices and seeds provide a complex flavor profile, balancing savory, sweet, spicy, and herbal tones suited for Memphis-style barbecue ribs.

Stored in an airtight container, this rub keeps well for repeat use. Its balance allows it to enhance the meat’s flavor without overpowering, helping to create a crust when cooked.

Use it as a seasoning base before cooking ribs low and slow; the sugar will contribute to a caramelized bark.
