Savory Sausage Wontons
Description
The wontons start with cooking ground pork sausage in a skillet until browned, providing a savory base. Finely chopped water chestnuts, minced garlic, and grated ginger are added mid-cook to introduce crunch and aromatic warmth. After turning off the heat, soy sauce and sliced green onions are folded in for saltiness and fresh bites. The mixture is spooned into individual wonton wrappers, which are folded by bringing opposite corners together and pinched tightly to seal, removing any air pockets to avoid bursting during frying.
Deep frying in vegetable oil at 350°F crisps the wrappers quickly, turning them golden brown while cooking the filling through without drying it out. Served hot, these wontons can be accompanied by sweet and spicy dipping sauces, such as a homemade sweet Asian chili sauce with pineapple juice, brown sugar, and spices, which enhances their flavor with a sticky, bright contrast.
The combination of the tender, savory filling with crispy wrappers and a tangy-sweet dipping sauce makes these wontons a satisfying snack or appetizer with varied textures and layered Asian-inspired flavors.
