Sazon Seasoning Recipe
Description
The Sazon seasoning recipe blends annatto powder, known for its color and subtle flavor, with oregano, garlic powder, ground coriander, cumin, onion powder, black pepper, and kosher salt. These ingredients are combined thoroughly and stored in an airtight container away from light and heat to preserve flavor and color for up to six months, with best results within two months.
This mix can be shaken before each use to redistribute spices and is an easy way to impart authentic Latin American seasoning tones to various dishes, from stews and grilled meats to rice and beans. Its distinctively bright hue adds visual appeal as well as flavor depth.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 tablespoons annatto powder , can substitute half paprika/half turmeric
- 1 tablespoon oregano recommended for best authentic flavor but can substitute regular/Greek oregano, Mexican, crushed
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon ground coriander
- 1 tablespoon cumin ground
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 1 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt or sea salt
Instructions
- Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl. Store in an airtight jar in a dark, cool place for up to six months. For optimal flavor use within 2 months. Shake before each use to redistribute the ingredients. This makes about 1/3 cup of seasoning.
