Seasoned Air Fryer Sweet Potato Wedges
Description
The recipe starts by slicing medium-sized sweet potatoes into evenly sized wedges to ensure uniform cooking. Tossing the wedges in olive oil helps the seasoning adhere and promotes browning in the air fryer. The spice mix of smoked paprika, cumin, salt, and black pepper adds a smoky and earthy depth that complements the natural sweetness of the potatoes.
Cooking in a preheated air fryer at 400°F crisps the wedges within about 20 minutes, with an optional toss halfway through for even cooking. Avoiding overcrowding maximizes airflow and crispness; if necessary, cook in batches. This technique yields wedges with crispy edges and a soft, fluffy inside without deep frying.
These wedges are versatile as a side dish or snack and can be enhanced with additional spices or fresh herbs as desired. Their texture and warm spices make them a pleasant accompaniment to various main dishes or dips.
Drying the wedges before oil application is essential for crispness. Variations including garlic powder, onion powder, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, or fresh cilantro freshen and customize the flavor profile.
Ingredients
- 2 sweet potatoes cut into wedges, medium, 600g
- 1 Tbsp olive oil 15g
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- See notes for more optional seasoning additions
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F.
- Cut sweet potatoes into small wedges. Cutting them roughly the same size ensures even cooking.
- Toss sweet potato wedges in a bowl with olive oil.
- Mix together seasonings (paprika, cumin, salt and pepper) in a small bowl. Then sprinkle the mixture all over the sweet potatoes and toss well to combine.
- Place the potatoes in a single row in the bottom of your air fryer and cook for 20 minutes, tossing half way through, until crispy. If your air fryer basket is small, you will need to cook in batches, otherwise potatoes won’t have space to get crispy!
Notes
- Dry sweet potato wedges thoroughly before adding oil to maximize crispiness.
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if needed for even cooking.
- Additional seasoning options include garlic powder, onion powder, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, and fresh cilantro for varied flavors.
- Using 1 tablespoon of olive oil balances crispiness and fat content; adjust quantity based on preference.
