Seasoned Rice
Description
This Seasoned Rice recipe begins by lightly browning rice in butter to develop a toasted flavor, followed by sautéing onion and garlic to add savory aromatics. Broth replaces water to infuse the rice with depth, while soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and dried parsley contribute umami, a subtle tang, and herb notes.
The rice is covered and simmered without disturbance to ensure proper steaming and fluffiness. After cooking, resting off heat allows the grains to set, followed by adding extra butter for a silky texture.
The resulting rice is savory and fragrant, making it suitable as a side for grilled meats, vegetables, or as a base in bowls.
Additional suggestions include adding a bouillon cube for a bolder taste or incorporating fresh herbs and vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms to customize the dish further.
Ingredients
- 1 cup long grain white rice
- 2 tablespoons butter divided
- ¼ cup onion finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 2 cups beef broth or chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon parsley dried
Instructions
- Place rice and 1 tablespoon butter in a saucepan with a lid. Heat over medium high heat until the rice starts to slightly brown.
- Add onion and garlic, cook 2-3 minutes or until slightly softened.
- Add remaining ingredients (except butter) and stir. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, cover, and reduce heat to a simmer.
- Cook 20 minutes, do not open the lid.
- Remove from the heat (without opening the lid) and let rest 5 minutes.
- Open the lid, add the remaining butter, and stir. Fluff with a fork, taste, and season with additional salt & pepper if desired.
Notes
- For stronger flavor, a bouillon cube can be added to the broth.
- Avoid lifting the lid during cooking to ensure proper steaming.
- Add fresh herbs, diced bell peppers, or fried mushrooms for variation.
- The seasoning blend can be adapted to different rice types, but cooking times and liquid ratios may need adjustment.
