Shepherd's Pie

Shepherd's Pie features a savory ground beef and vegetable base seasoned with tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and Italian herbs, topped with creamy mashed potatoes. The dish is baked until the top is golden, offering a hearty, textured casserole where the soft potato layer complements the rich, flavorful meat and vegetable filling, suitable for a comforting meal.

Description

This Shepherd's Pie combines a beef base cooked with celery, garlic, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, and beef broth to create a thick, seasoned filling with added frozen vegetables for texture and color. The ground beef is browned and combined with the aromatic vegetables and seasonings before being thickened with flour and simmered gently.

The mashed potato topping is made by boiling diced russet potatoes until tender, then mashing with butter, salt, and pepper to achieve a creamy consistency. This topping is spread evenly over the beef mixture in a casserole dish.

Baked at 400°F, the dish develops a golden crust on top while the filling simmers underneath. It is served hot as a filling main course that balances creamy, smooth potatoes with savory, textured meat and vegetables.
